George Steeves initiated his engineering career with a major international air conditioning equipment firm in 1975, representing the firm in Wisconsin, Toronto and Edmonton.

In 1980, he joined MCW Consultants as Manager of the Vancouver office.  During his time at the firm, he was responsible for major projects such as the BCSC Computer Centre (Victoria), Pan Pacific Hotel, HSBC Office Tower at 885 West Georgia, Sutton Place Hotel, Canada Place and the Oakridge Shopping Centre.

In 1987, he went abroad and was employed in Brisbane and Sydney, Australia for 5 years as a Senior HVAC and Plumbing Engineer.

Upon returning to Canada in 1992, he joined DW Thomson Consultants in Victoria as Partner responsible for the firm's offices in Victoria and Nanaimo.  Projects designed under his direction during this time included several multi-level care facilities, office buildings and hospital renovations/expansions.
